The Republic of Longevity, Milan Triennial 2025

The Republic of Longevity at the Triennale di Milano: a new vision of living long, well and together

For the first time in human history, five generations are sharing the same time and the same planet. By 2050, over 2 billion people will be over 60, and one in six will be over 65. But what lies ahead is not just a demographic issue: it is a structural and cultural change that will force us to move from an “ageing society” to a “longevity society”.

This awareness gave rise to The Republic Of Longevity. In Health Equality We Trust, an immersive installation hosted at the Triennale di Milano until 9 November 2025.

Designed by Sopa Design Studio, produced by Espositiva and curated by Marco Sammicheli and Nic Palmarini, the exhibition is an artistic, social and political manifesto that proposes a paradigm shift: living a long life is no longer just an individual goal, but a collective issue to be addressed as a community.

The Republic of Longevity is structured around five ministries, each reflecting on a fundamental aspect of contemporary existence and public health: Sleep Equality, Food Democracy, Physical Freedom, Ministry of Purpose and Ministry of Togetherness.

Each of these environments highlights how simple everyday behaviours – eating, sleeping, moving, socialising, giving meaning to one’s life – can still create inequalities today.

Access to a healthy lifestyle is far from guaranteed: it is conditioned by economic, social, environmental and cultural factors. Yet it is precisely these actions that are the real tools of democratic longevity, the building blocks for a more equitable society.

The exhibition does not merely propose scenarios: it invites the public to interact, share practices and leave traces. The Republic Of Longevity is, ultimately, a tribute to the genius of human thought and the ability to imagine new models of coexistence.

It is a project that combines art, technology, science and design to restore the deepest meaning of longevity: not simply living longer, but living better, together.
