Triennale Milano, 2015

An extraordinary exhibition experience in the unique setting of Triennale Milano

“I am particularly attached to Art & Food because, before founding Espositiva, I was fortunate enough to win the competition as project manager and oversee the installation of the so-called ‘cube’ area at the Triennale di Milano. On that occasion, I created part of the structures designed by architect Italo Rota, who was commissioned by Germano Celant to redesign the gallery spaces and exhibition elements for the exhibition.

It was undoubtedly a unique experience: it was the first time I had been involved in a museum exhibition, and I felt immersed in an extremely complex project right from the start. However, working in the spaces of the Triennale di Milano and learning the customs and practices of the museum world fully rewarded all my efforts.”

The Art & Food exhibition, curated by Germano Celant, was presented in 2015 at the Triennale di Milano, during Expo Milano 2015, whose main theme was “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. It was a major retrospective dedicated to the relationship between art and food from 1851 (the year of the first Universal Expo in London) to 2015.

The central theme of the event was to explore how food, the table and eating practices have inspired and influenced art and design over more than 150 years. The exhibition included paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, videos and multimedia works by internationally renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí and many others.
Alongside the artworks, design objects related to food and the table were also on display, such as utensils, tableware, furniture, advertisements and posters.

The exhibition embraced not only the visual arts, but also architecture, graphic design and cinema, reflecting on food not only as sustenance, but also as a cultural, political and social symbol.
The exhibition was divided into thematic and chronological sections, highlighting the evolution of eating habits, the representation of food in different artistic movements and its role as a metaphor in society.

Art & Food stood out for its innovative character, offering an immersive and reflective experience in line with the universal theme of Expo 2015. The exhibition was a great success with the public and critics alike, confirming Germano Celant’s ability to intertwine art and culture in a profound and original dialogue.
